  • A novel organic rectorite (OREC) was prepared by treating the natural sodium rectorite (Na-REC) with ionic liquid 1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C16mim]Br). The curing behaviors of nanocomposites were quantitatively studied according to the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and rheology methods. It was shown by DSC that the activation energies of epoxy system decreased when OREC with reactive imidazole groups were incorporated. The viscosity and viscous flow activation energy were obtained by rheology during the curing reaction. The curing kinetics of the nanocomposites was also deduced from dynamic viscosity analysis and isotherm viscosity analysis. Better dispersion states of the filler can decrease the curing reaction activation energy. The best processing conditions of the nanocomposites were found.

  • A sensitive capillary electrophoresis–electrochemiluminescence (CE–ECL) assay with an ionic liquid (IL) was developed for the determination of arecoline in areca nut. The IL, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (BMImBF4), was an effective additive improved not only the separation selectivity but also the detection sensitivity of the analyte. BMImBF4 in the separation electrolyte made the resistance of the separation buffer much lower than that of the sample solution, which resulted in an enhanced field amplified electrokinetic injection CE. ECL intensity of arecoline is about two times higher than that of the analyte with phosphate–IL buffer system. Resolution between arecoline and other unknown compounds in real samples was improved. Under the optimized conditions (ECL detection at 1.2 V, 16 kV separation voltage, 20 mmol/L phosphate with 10 mmol/L BMImBF4 buffer at pH 7.50, 5 mmol/L Ru(bpy)3 2+ and 50 mmol/L phosphate buffer in the detection reservoir), a detection limit of 5×10–9 mol/L for arecoline was obtained. Relative standard deviations of the ECL intensity and the migration time were 4.51% and 0.72% for arecoline. This method was successfully applied to determination of the amount of arecoline in areca nut within 450 s.

  • In this study, ionic liquid (IL) supported magnetic dispersive solid-phase microextraction was developed and a systematic investigation was conducted on imidazolium ILs for their extraction performance. This nano-based pretreatment procedure was then applied for the determination of acaricides in fruit juice samples for the first time. A feature of this technique is that the commonly laborious chemical modification of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) was skillfully circumvented. Because of the combination of ILs, dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction, and dispersive MNP solid-phase microextraction, the extraction efficiency can be significantly improved using commercial MNPs. Parameters of the extraction method were investigated by one-factor-at-a-time approach. The optimal experimental conditions were as follows: emulsification for 2 min by sonication with the addition of 50 L [C6MIM][NTf2] in the dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction step and vortexing for 90 s after adding 40 mg spherical barium ferrite nanoparticles (20 nm). The desorption time was 2 min. Good linearity (0.5–500 ng/mL) and detection limits within the range of 0.05–0.53 ng/mL were achieved. The application of the proposed method was demonstrated by the analysis of real fruit juice samples, in which recoveries between 85.1 and 99.6% were obtained.

  • An ultrasound-enhanced in situ solvent formation microextraction has been developed first time and compared with ultrasound-enhanced ionic-liquid-assisted dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction for the HPLC analysis of acaricides in environmental water samples. A ionic liquid ([C8MIM][PF6]) was used as the green extraction solvent through two pathways. The experimental parameters, such as the type and volume of both of the extraction solvent disperser solvent, ultrasonication time, and salt addition, were investigated and optimized. The analytical performance using the optimized conditions proved the feasibility of the developed methods for the quantitation of trace levels of acaricides by obtaining limits of detection that range from 0.54 to 3.68 g/L. The in situ solvent formation microextraction method possesses more positive characteristics than the ionic-liquid-assisted dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction method (except for spirodiclofen determination) when comparing the validation parameters. Both methods were successfully applied to determining acaricides in real water samples.
