  • [Wiley数据库][2013] Reconstitution of Cellulose and Lignin After [C2mim][OAc] Pretreatment and Its Relation to Enzymatic Hydrolysis

  • Although the effects of cellulose crystallinity and lignin content as two major structural features on enzymatic hydrolysis have been extensively studied, debates regarding their effects still exist. In this study, reconstitution of cellulose and lignin after 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([C2mim][OAc]) pretreatment was proposed as a new method to study their effects on enzymatic digestibility. Different mechanisms of lignin content for reduction of cellulose hydrolysis were found between the proposed method and the traditional method (mixing of cellulose and lignin). The results indicated that a slight change of the crystallinity of the reconstituted materials may play a minor role in the change of enzyme efficiency. In addition, the present study suggested that the lignin content does not significantly affect the digestibility of cellulose, whereas the conversion of cellulose fibers from the cellulose I to the cellulose II crystal phase plays an important role when an ionic liquid pretreatment of biomass was conducted.

  • Sulfated derivatives of polysaccharide from Momordica charantia L. (MCPS) with different degree of sulfation (DS) were synthesized by chlorosulfonic acid method with ionic liquids as solvent. Fourier transform infrared spectra and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectra indicated that C-6 substitution was predominant in MCPS compared with the C-2 position. Compared with the native polysaccharide from Momordica charantia L. (MCP), MCPS exhibited more excellent antioxidant activities in vitro, which indicated that sulfated modification could enhance antioxidant activities of MCP. Furthermore, high DS and moderate molecular weight could improve the antioxidant activities of polysaccharide.

  • Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) have attracted tremendous research interest due to the unique properties associated with both graphene and quantum dots. Here, a new application of GQDs as ideal electrode materials for supercapacitors is reported. To this end, a GQDs//GQDs symmetric microsupercapacitor is prepared using a simple electro-deposition approach, and its electrochemical properties in aqueous electrolyte and ionic liquid electrolyte are systematically investigated. The results show that the as-made GQDs micro-supercapacitor has superior rate capability up to 1000 V s−1, excellent power response with very short relaxation time constant (τ0 = 103.6 μs in aqueous electrolyte and τ0 = 53.8 μs in ionic liquid electrolyte), and excellent cycle stability. Additionally, another GQDs//MnO2 asymmetric supercapacitor is also built using MnO2 nanoneedles as the positive electrode and GQDs as the negative electrode in aqueous electrolyte. Its specific capacitance and energy density are both two times higher than those of GQDs//GQDs symmetric micro-supercapacitor in the same electrolyte. The results presented here may pave the way for a new promising application of GQDs in micropower suppliers and microenergy storage devices.

  • Homogeneous modification of corn starch with acetic anhydride was performed in ionic liquids 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BMIMCl) without catalysts. The results indicated that the pretreatment of starch, which starch was dissolved in BMIMCl at 1058C for 2 h before reaction, provided feasible reaction environment for starch functionalization. Optimum modification conditions for maximum degree of substitute (DS 2.11) were shown as following: acetic anhydride/anhydroglucose units (AGU) molar ratio 5:1, reaction temperature 1058C and reaction time 2 h. The pretence of acetyl groups in starch products was confirmed by FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. SEM and XRD data showed that the crystalline structure of native starch was disrupted and new structure was formed during the dissolution and modification processes. The higher DS due to acetylation had a beneficial effect on the thermal stability of samples.
